Verses For Newspaper Notices

A newspaper notice formally advises friends and family of a death as well as where and when the funeral service will take place. We can help you write a funeral notice and organise its publication if you would like us to.

Below is an example of a newspaper notice format. You may also wish to add a verse or quote:

COOPER, Gordon Edward on the 21 January 2021, passed away peacefully at home, aged 87 years.
Dearly loved husband of…
Loved father and father-in-law of…
Much loved grandfather of…
Loved brother and brother-in-law of…

A service will be held at the chapel of Morris & Morris Funerals, Whangarei, on Wednesday 27 January 2021 at 1.30pm, followed by a private cremation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to North Haven Hospice, PO Box 7050, Whangarei would be appreciated. (If you would like people to send flowers, do not include the statement about donations.)

Special thanks to the staff at North Haven Hospice who cared for Gordon over the past months. Your support has been incredible. (You may wish to thank specific people who have been outstanding in their help to you and your family.)

Verse and Quote Examples

Example #1

Forever in our thoughts.
Always remembered.
Remembered with love.
Treasured memories of dear…
Forever in our hearts.
Cherished memories.
We will never forget you.
He/She will be sadly missed.
So mote be it (Masonic).
Lest we forget (RSA).
Thank you for the memories.
To know him/her was to love him/her.
So dearly loved, so sadly missed.
Rest in peace.
Requiescat in pace.
At rest.
A patient sufferer at rest.
Peace at last.

Example #2

We knew the time was coming,
When we must say goodbye.
Our hearts are filled with sadness,
but memories never die.
Death will not part us nor distance divide.
Forever and always.
You will be by my side.
To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die.
God took your hand and made us part,
he closed your eyes and
broke our hearts.

God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts.

In God’s care.
Mum and Dad reunited.
Goodbye my darling.
One of nature’s true gentlemen.
May his/her dear soul rest in peace.
Till we meet again.
Sleeping peacefully.
Safe in the arms of Jesus.

Example #3

May the winds of love blow softly
And whispe r for you to hear
That we will always love you
And forever keep you near.

Though your smile has gone forever
And your hand we cannot touch
We shall never lose the memory
Of the Mum/Dad we loved so much.

He/she never failed to do his/her best.

You tried so hard to stay with us
But the struggle was in vain
God took you in his loving arms
And freed you from your pain.

Out of this world of suffering
Into God’s garden of rest
It must be a beautiful garden
For He only takes the best.

No longer in our lives to share,
But in our hearts he’s/she’s
always there. It’s not what we write,
or even what we say,
but how we remember you
In our special way.

A life made beautiful by kindly deeds
And helping hand for others’ needs Generous his/her heart and friendship true
Loved and respected by all he/she knew.

Example #4

You did not want to leave us
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Treasure him/her, Lord,
in your garden of rest
For here on earth
he/she was one of the best.

Death is not extinguishing the light
But putting out the lamp
Because the dawn has come.

To the world you were but one
But to us you were the world.

Blessed are the pure in heart
For they shall see the face of God.

We have so many happy memories
you will be forever in our hearts.

In God’s care he/she rests above
In our hearts he/she rests with love.

Words are few, thoughts are deep,
memories of you are ours to keep.

In our hearts he/she will always stay
Loved and remembered in every way.

Deep in our hearts a memory is kept,
of one that we love and will never forget.

To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die.
